UK Council Tax rebate

UK Council Tax Rebate

UK Council Tax Rebate Reminder

The UK government signalled that they would offer all households in category A-D council tax bands (as well as band E if a disabled person lives in the property) a £150 one-off rebate to combat the cost of living crisis.

The payment types for this rebate being made can differ, for example as I pay my council tax by direct debit, I received the rebate directly into my bank account. In fact Freedom of Information figures disclosed by the BBC suggested 97% of people in England & Wales who pay council tax by direct debit had got the rebate by the 1st July 2022.

However more than 3 million people still hadn’t received their £150 council tax rebate by the 1st July 2022, this is because they pay their council tax by a different method. This rebate is in the form of a voucher and local councils started to issue these in May 2022 starting with accounts that had been registered for Council Tax the longest. These vouchers must be taken to a post office within free months otherwise the funds will be lost.

The government set a deadline of September 30th 2022 for all payments to be made by local councils, with payments starting back in April 2022.

If you are eligible and you haven’t received yours you should check with you Council immediately especially if you pay by a different method to Direct Debit.

If you don’t know your council tax band then you can look it up here (you’ll just need your post code):
